La Camaronera

If you love seafood, don't mind standing up to eat it, and love extravaganza, La Camaronera is the place to go.  Located right off downtown Miami, it is not hard to find. It may not be easy to imagine yet, but once you've tried it you will be hooked forever. Amazing by its extremes: no waiters, no menus, no wine, not even a chair to sit on; La Camaronera is ...

A trip to Sushi-Samba on Lincoln Road

Walking down Lincoln Road, I feel my stomach's wide emptiness and I hear a sudden growl of resentment from its deep obscurities. As I am pondering this reality I pass by a restaurant with voluble techno music booming from inside. Many people sit outside getting the best of both worlds with delicious food and the people-watching scenario of Lincoln Road blended with techno music. I am lured to the entrance ...

Lincoln Road, best people watching place in Miami Beach!

Full of exclusive restaurants and bursting with cool cafés, Lincoln Road is vivid with atmosphere. The restaurant diversity is simply staggering; just to mention a few, Sushi Samba is a place with a classic flamboyant Japanese touch blended with voluble techno music and  where you can enjoy an exotic triple colored seaweed salad. Touch is "a feast for the senses" with a comfortable modern setting, belly dancing and a menu ...

Miami’s best hotel in South Beach combines history, art, and comfort

One of the most exotic hotels in Miami is the Loews Hotel.  Located in the heart of Miami Beach's history Art Deco District, the largest of the nation, it is itself an Art Deco jewel renovated to go with South Beach's rebirth.  Part of this fascinating structure is the St Moritz Hotel built in 1939; it carries all the fascinating elements of Art deco style: modernism, cubism, futurism combined by ...

International Mall Miami

I have to admit, I love to shop.  So, last night I headed to an old favorite that I haven't been to in months - International Mall.  Located just off 107th St. in Doral, International Mall has everything you'd expect from a mall and then some.  All the regular stores are there - the Gap, NY & Co., JC Penny, Macy's...  plus some off beat tiendas with Latin spice.

International Mall ...

Jazzy Piano in Miami

Last night I went to see the pianist, Jean Michel Pilc, at the Carnival Center for the Performing Arts.  I have to say, I am not much for piano music or jazz - I bought the tickets as a Christmas gift and got dragged along... But, I actually had a great time.  Mr. Pilc did this song where he whistled through the whole thing while playing perfectly, and I found myself ...

Kokoriko in Miami

Where would you find a waiting list for a table at a fast food joint?  Kokoriko!  This Colombian chicken chain recently opened up a store near Dadeland Mall - and the local Colombians are going crazy.  I visited last Saturday and had to wait in outside a full 30 minutes just to get a table.  I have to say, it was worth the wait just for the caramel flan.  Oh, ...

The Reptile and Alternative Pet Show

Reptile Display
My family and I had a chance to visit the Reptile and Alternative Pet Show which was held at Flamingo Gardens in Davie, Florida and ended up buying a Ball Python at a very reasonable price ($15.). These Ball Pythons are usually sold at local pet stores for $49. each, so the savings more than covered the Admission fee of $6. per person which ...

Tropical Park: A slice of Paradise in Miami

Feeding the birds at Tropical ParkSaturday I went to Tropical Park. The day was cool but not cold. It was sunny but occasionally slightly overcast. While the day was bright, it was not a scorching sunlight. Even though Tropical Park is in the middle of Miami, the air feels fresh inside the park. I had a very relaxing and fun day with my family at ...

DUO Off Beat But Right On in Miami

This weekend I ate at one of the trendiest spots off the beach - Duo.  This little swanky restaurant is just off Brickell Avenue on Miami Ave - and if you didn't know it was there, you probably wouldn't go looking.  But, this hidden gem is worth searching for.

The inside of Duo is minimally decorated with modern decor and dim lighting, while the outside deck with its small tables has a ...
