John Wayne Airport, owned and operated by the County of Orange is the only commercial service airport in Orange County, California. It is located approximately 35 miles south of Los Angeles, between the cities of Costa Mesa, Irvine, Newport Beach and Santa Ana. The service area includes 3 million people within the 34 cities and unincorporated areas of Orange County. In 2005, more than 9.6 million passengers were served.John Wayne Airport is served by eleven commercial airlines and four commuter airlines. It has one main terminal, the Thomas F. Riley Terminal, named for the County Supervisor who had lobbied for the airport's expansion in the 1980s. The Riley Terminal is divided into two concourses, A and B, with satellite buildings serving commuter flights. A separate terminal serves general aviation.
