Housed in a converted 14th century palazzo since 1856, the five-storey Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth has been visited by Franz Kafka and German chancellor Helmut Schroeder. The spacious interiors feature period furnishing and Murano glass ornaments. The hotel’s rooftop terrace offers fine views of Venice from comfortable sun loungers and chairs, while the hotel’s large garden is adorned with rich flora and fauna. The courtyard hosts refreshing breakfasts and candlelit dinners during summers. The hotel overlooks Saint Mark’s Basin. Within walking distance from the hotel is the Arsenale museum of naval history, which was a former shipyard. Saint Mark’s Square and the Biennale Gardens that hosts the Venice Biennale art exhibition are about half a mile from the hotel.

From Marco Polo airport, take the ATVO shuttle or bus number 5 to Piazzale Roma or the Alilaguna to Arsenale stop; from San Guiseppe airport in Treviso, take the ATVO shuttle to Piazzale Roma. From Piazzale Roma or Saint Lucia train station, take water bus numbers 1 or 41 to Arsenale stop. From Arsenale stop, walk along Fondamenta di Fronte on to Campo di San Martino and Calle del Pestrin. Turn right to Calle dei Preti. Take a right to Campo Bandiera e Moro followed by another right to Calle Dietro la Pietà. Turn left to Calle Della Pietà and continue to arrive at Hotel Gabrielli Sandwirth.
