Nevada State Guide

You might be surprised to find out that Nevada outlawed gambling in the early 1900s. Although the bright lights of the Las Vegas strip, amazing hotels and lucky tables draw millions of hopeful guests each year, there’s a lot more to this state than Black Jack and one-armed bandits.

Map of Nevada

There is a wealth of natural beauty in this desert state. Head over to the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area and you’ll soon agree. The sunrises and sunsets show off their fantastic colors when displayed against the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Lake Mead, although it’s not considered one of Mother Nature’s creations, draws thousands of tourists needing a break from the desert sun. Some of the great activities you can enjoy on this man-made lake include boating, sailing, swimming and simply relaxing on the beaches. Lake Mead is also home to the beautiful Alan Bible Botanical Garden. No visit to Nevada though would be considered complete without a trip to the Hoover Dam. Interestingly enough it crosses over a time zone so make sure you’re clear on your meeting times when you go exploring. Dedicated as a National Historic Landmark back in 1985, the Hoover Dam is a fantastic example of dedication and hard work. With all this water it’s a bit surprising to find that you’re still in the desert. You’ll quickly remember that you are surrounded by sand though when you make your way to the Ethel M Botanical Cactus Gardens. The sheer number of beautiful prickly plants is quite impressive, just be aware of your surroundings as you tour this lovely place.

Artists love coming to Nevada as well. The Uptown Downtown Artown festival is truly one of a kind. There are many wonderful communities located throughout the state that show off the talents of the local artists. Whether they’ve created handmade vases, jewelry, paintings or sculptures the creativity is truly beautiful.

If you’re still aching for the tables you can always visit Las Vegas. There really isn’t anything quite like the rush you feel here. The shows, golf courses, shopping venues, world-class spas and restaurants all help make your Nevada experience one worth remembering.
